What is a ReConnect chapter?
A ReConnect chapter is an independent local club that helps teens get involved in nature, sports, community, and education. Chapter leaders use resources from the ReConnect platform to create a flexible curriculum of activities based on their members’ interests. These activities are centred around ReConnect’s four pillars: Fitness & Wellbeing, Nature, Service, and Culture & Education.
Who can start a ReConnect chapter?
ReConnect chapters are completely independent, and anyone is welcome to start one. Just register for a free account on ReConnect’s website to access our leader resources. If you’d like additional support, to be featured on our website, or to share your resources with other chapters, you can apply to be recognised by ReConnect Central. This is an informal process that includes a short virtual or in-person meeting. To learn more about chapter recognition, email us at chapters@reconnectyouth.org.uk.
Can individuals use ReConnect resources without starting a chapter?
Of course! Anyone can register for a free account on ReConnect’s platform and access our leader guides. While these guides are written with chapter leaders in mind, they’re full of valuable ideas for anyone looking to build their skills and lead a healthier, happier life.
How should we structure our chapter?
At ReConnect, we believe in flexibility. Your chapter can decide how it wants to be organised. While our resources are designed with the idea that a "chapter leader" will guide activities, you’re free to rotate leadership roles, share responsibilities, or choose a structure that works best for your group.
Who can join our chapter?
That’s up to you! Chapters have the freedom to set their own membership policies. However, we ask that all chapters avoid any kind of discriminatory practices. If we find that a chapter’s policies are harmful or exclusive, we might need to step in and reconsider their use of ReConnect’s branding and materials.
Can we create our own goals and activities?
Absolutely! ReConnect encourages chapters to set their own goals and plan activities that resonate with their members. Our leader guides are designed to be modular, so you can mix and match activities or even come up with your own. Whether you follow our suggestions closely or branch out on your own, it’s all about what works for your group.
Do we need to follow any specific rules or guidelines?
As independent clubs, chapters have the freedom to run things in the way that suits them best. This means you decide how often to meet, what activities to do, and who can join. Our mission is to provide you with the tools and inspiration you need to help teens build skills, improve their health, and connect with others—how you achieve that is up to you!
What resources are available to support our chapter?
ReConnect’s main resource is a library of leader guides that help you plan and run activities. In the future, we hope to offer more tools, like meeting templates, multimedia resources, and branding resources. If you’re leading a recognised chapter, you can also request new guides or even submit your own for others to use. And if you ever need advice or support, we’re here to help—just send us an email at chapters@reconnectyouth.org.uk.
Who handles safety and legal issues?
Since ReConnect chapters are independent, each chapter is responsible for managing its own safety, legal matters, and group dynamics. We’re here to provide inspiration and resources, but the day-to-day running of your chapter, including ensuring everyone’s wellbeing, is in your hands.
How do we grow our chapter and keep it going?
Recruiting and retaining members is something each chapter handles independently. We trust you to know what’s best for your group. Whether you have a small, tight-knit group or a larger, more diverse chapter, how you build and maintain your community is entirely up to you!
Do we need to report back to ReConnect Central?
There’s no requirement to check in with us regularly. We trust you to run your chapter in the way that works best for you. However, if your chapter is recognised, we’d love to hear how things are going! And if you ever need to ask a question or share an update, we’re just an email away.
What if we want to connect with other chapters?
While we don’t currently have a central forum for chapters to interact directly, recognised chapters can submit leader guides and may be featured on our website or blog. It’s a great way to share your experiences and ideas with the broader ReConnect community.
